Himalayan School for Children of Mountain Farmers

I visited the Society for Motivational Training and Action (SMTA) Primary School in May this year. It is located in a remote Himalayan village called Jakhadar. Here is a video showing the surroundings:

The yellow buildings on the bottom right of the photo is the SMTA school.

Photos of the SMTA school from the back.

Here is a photo of the children in the school, two teachers and school director (and friend), Dr. Sachin Srivastava. There are about fifty children in the school. All the children come from nearby villages, and walk through mountain trails to attend school. Most of their parents are farmers.

It was a wonderful experience being in a school environment. During recess, I didn't feel like I was in a remote mountain village anymore - I could have been in any school yard across the world. The sound of children chattering, playing games, and laughing.

The SMTA primary school is the only private school in the region. This is important because it is carefully monitored by Dr. Sachin, and Guru ji (the head teacher) and is continuously trying to improve. They are running a crowdfunding campaign: https://milaap.org/fundraisers/support-smta-school
